For me, gauging my personal comfort level with using self-disclosure is difficult. Part of me thinks that I would be very comfortable with using self-disclosure for minute details such as in a "Most of my clients..." disclosure situation. But I question how comfortable I would be with revealing highly personal information about myself to the client. I personally struggle with a BPD diagnosis and in my own experience with therapy, I have felt very misunderstood despite many counselors' best efforts at validation. I never quite feel fully understood beyond a textbook version of understanding when discussing my issues with a helper of achieved status.
